The Trump administration is taking legal to challenge the sanctuary status of Illinois, the City of Chicago and Cook County. The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit yesterday in Chicago federal court claiming local and state laws violate federal immigration law. The DOJ argues that sanctuary policies are designed to interfere with the Federal Government’s enforcement of federal immigration law in violation of the Constitution. Governor Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle have all vowed to uphold the state and city’s sanctuary laws.
