Man Points Gun at Paxton Cop

In Ford County, 52-year-old Damon Legereit of Metropolis was arrested Monday night after Paxton Police say he aimed a pistol at an officer during a wellness check. It happened around 9:30 p.m. at a camper on Market Street. The officer stepped back and called for backup. Paxton Police and Ford County deputies responded, and Legereit surrendered without a fight. A search revealed nearly 120 grams of cannabis inside the camper. Legereit faces felony charges, including Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis.
