Manhattan Firefighters fight Peotone brush fire

Manhattan Fire Protection District firefighters were called out to a brush fire on South Egyptian Trail in Peotone Wednesday. Reports say they were called out about 2:45 and when they got there they found a half-acre of brush with two or three vehicles on fire. Firefighters called for help from surrounding communities and had the fire out in about a half-hour. Manhattan Deputy Fire Chief David Piper reminds you that even with recent rains, fire dangers remain high because of strong winds, dry conditions and low humidities. They suggest you put off any outdoor burning until we have better conditions.
