Manhattan Police say a physical education teacher at Manhattan Junior High School will not face criminal charges following an investigation into alleged misconduct. The teacher was escorted off school grounds last week and placed on paid leave amid claims he violated district policy. Police working with the Department of Child and Family Services and the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office launched a probe to determine if he illegally recorded subjects. Police said today that no evidence of a crime was found under Illinois’ Unauthorized Video Recording law, though the case could reopen if new evidence emerges. District officials remain silent on details but confirmed an internal investigation continues. The teacher’s contract, however, will not be renewed.
