A traffic stop over the weekend netted Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group agents a drug arrest. In a press release, KAMEG agents say it was just before midnight Saturday night when they stopped a car near the intersection of Route 45/52 and South Tech Drive in Kankakee. A passenger in the car, identified as 32-year-old Jaleel O. Shepherd of Kankakee was found to be wanted on a pair of outstanding warrants. A search of the car allegedly turned up a baggie of suspected drugs where Shepherd had been sitting. Shepherd was initially charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and the two active warrants. Turns out Bradley Police wanted to talk with Shepherd in connection to a theft from a car back in January. Bradley Police say they were called to a report of a car being broken into in the 22-hundred block of Trapper’s Lane on January 28th. A wallet was reportedly taken from the unlocked car at that time and a debit card from the wallet was allegedly used at a Kankakee gas station. Bradley Police say their investigation implicated Shepherd in the burglary. He was also charged with that crime.
