The City of Kankakee was recently awarded a two million dollar grant from the State Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to help with construction of a new 12-thousand square foot domestic violence shelter on East Court Street. Kankakee Economic and Community Development Agency Director Barbi Brewer Watson explains
Watson said the entire project is expected to cost some three-and-a-half million dollars to complete, with this grant covering more than half that projected cost. The grant does say work on the project has to be completed by the summer of 2026.
