Local elections were held across Illinois Tuesday. Locally, those hotly contested races for Mayor in Kankakee, Bourbonnais and Manteno mostly ended up not being as close as one might have expected. In Kankakee Incumbent Mayor Chris Curtis defeated Dr. Genevra Walters with Curtis getting about 63 percent of the vote. Bourbonnais Trustee Jeff Keast garnered 60 percent of the vote in his race for Bourbonnais mayor against Dave Zinnani. Annette LaMore will be the next mayor of Manteno after beating Joel Gesky Tuesday by a little over 300 votes. Charles Steele beat Christy Ritter by just 12 votes in the race to be Mayor of Momence. In Watseka Benny Marcier defeated Scott Anderson, Incumbent Mayor Ben Dietz was re-elected mayor of Wilmington.
There will be no change in trustees for the Village of Bourbonnais with Angie Serafini, Bruce Greenly and Rick Fisher winning re-election Tuesday. Peggy Vaughn, CJ Boudreau and Michael Berry were the top vote getters in the Village trustee race in Manteno, though Berry edged out Paul Motel by a single vote.
In Momence, voters chose not to increase the amount of tax dollars going to support the local Fire Protection District. County Clerk Dan Hendrickson said voter turnout was about 21 percent, which he said is about normal for a consolidated election
