During Wednesday morning’s meeting of the Kankakee County Board’s Criminal Justice Committee, Sheriff Mike Downey gave the committee an update on the state-wide pilot program the Jerome Combs Detention Center where detainees from other counties that have been deemed unfit to stand trial get treatment in an effort to get them fit to stand trial
Sheriff Downey pointed out the program has been a benefit to the county since local inmates get access to the program. Downey added more than half of the counties in Illinois have either sent inmates for treatment or have inquired about sending inmates for treatment through the pilot program.
