The judge in the federal bribery trial of State Senator Emil Jones the third is declaring a mistrial. The judge made the decision yesterday after the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on three criminal counts after deliberating around 24 hours over four days. The Chicago Democrat was accused of taking money from a red-light camera company executive to kill legislation requiring traffic studies for automated camera systems. If he was convicted, Jones was looking at possible prison time and could have been forced to give up the Senate seat he took over from his father in 2009. He could still face another trial.
