Crash closes I-65 in Northwest Indiana

A semi fire on I-65 near Lowell Saturday closed the interstate for a time. In a press release, Indiana State Police say the semi was just coming out of a construction zone when one of its steer tires blew out, causing the driver to lose control. The truck and trailer overturned and caught fire. The driver was able to escape the flames, but was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The interstate was closed down until about 5:30 Saturday night after IDOT was able to fix the roadway damaged by the blaze.
