Johnsonville abruptly closed the doors to their meat packing plant in Momence, known has Momence Packing Company this morning. Mayor Chuck Steele said the plant’s closure is a serious blow to the area.
A representative from Johnsonville has told us the closure of Momence packing effects 274 people. Employees will receive pay and benefits for sixty days. Momence Packing was built in 1962 and began producing products for Johnsonville in 1995. The building will be demolished by the end of the year.
