Charges are pending after a man allegedly took a swing at his public defender during a hearing at the Kankakee County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon. Reports say 42-year-old Roderick T. Hodge Junior was in his detention hearing for an earlier felony disorderly conduct charge where he allegedly handed a backpack to a deputy at the courthouse and told him there was a bomb inside. Reports say during Wednesday’s hearing, Hodge became verbally aggressive toward the Judge, and though handcuffed and shackled allegedly swung his handcuffed hands at the head of Lead Public Defender Ed Pentuic. Reports say Pentuic dodged the attack and deputies subdued Hodge. Officials are considering additional charges against Hodge which could include assault and contempt of court.
