Kankakee City Police report since April 1st, 18 car thefts and 3 attempted car thefts have occurred. 9 of those cars were Kia and Hyundai models. Every stolen car was left unlocked and all but one of the cars has been recovered. Most of the thefts happened in the south and west sides of the city. Police believe all of the thefts are linked to a group of juveniles. Kankakee Police advise residents to always leave their cars locked and never leave keys or fobs inside. Kia or Hyundai owners should consider using a steering wheel lock or anti theft device. The police department has a limited supply of these locks available.
