The Kankakee County Highways and Waterways Committee voted in favor to spend up to seventy five thousand dollars for a river rescue boat to share with the Limestone Fire Protection District at this morning’s meeting. County Program Manager Eric Cavender said the boat will help enhance response times to river emergencies.
The rescue boat would be paid for by a river grant secured by Illinois State Senator Patrick Joyce. The purchase will still need approval from the full county board. Kankakee County currently does not own any rescue boats.
