Armed Robbery at Kankakee Gas Station

According to city police reports, officers were called to a gas station on the 500 block of South Indiana Avenue just after 5:30 this morning for an armed robbery. Officers learned the suspect may have headed to a home in the 400 block of South Rosewood Avenue. When officers arrived at the home, they spotted a man knocking on the front door, later identified as 46 year old Ronald O. Newman. Officers handcuffed Newman and found a hammer stapler in his waistband. While searching the front porch area of the residence, officers found a gray plastic bag filled with money stashed in a large bush. The victim from the gas station was able to positively identify Newman as the person who allegedly robbed the place and has been charged with armed robbery.
