A welfare check turned into a drug arrest for Kankakee City Police yesterday afternoon. According to police reports, officers were called to a store on Riverstone Parkway just after 2:30 yesterday afternoon. When they arrived, an employee told officers there was a woman allegedly asleep on the floor in the makeup section. The employee also claimed she might have been stuffing items into her purse as well. Officers made contact with the woman and identified her as 33 year old Samantha Talley. A search of Talley’s belongings allegedly turned up a clear plastic baggie with three white rocks, a syringe, burnt spoon, and a pipe. Talley told officers the white rocks were approximately half a gram of heroin. Talley was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance among other charges. She was also wanted on two outstanding warrants.
