2 Kankakee County Zip Codes added to Lead Water Testing List

The Illinois Department of Public Health has added 180 zip codes to its lead exposure testing list for children who live in those areas. According to a press release, Manteno and Bonfield were just added to the list this month. Kankakee County Health Department Clinic Coordinator Kristen Dozier explains what this means.

Under current Illinois law, blood tests that come back with lead levels in excess of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter require a public health intervention. This includes a home inspection to determine the source of the lead contamination. If lead is found, the inspector works with the homeowner to remove the sources of lead.

 

Grundy County Sheriff’s Police Scam

Grundy County Sheriff’s Police are reporting another scam going around. In this one, the scammer is calling people saying they’re a Sergeant or Deputy from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer goes on to say there’s an urgent legal matter and then they request a call back. The call came from 815-642-3346. Grundy County Deputies say  the Sheriff’s Office does not call on the phone regarding “Urgent legal matters”, and remind you not to give any personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know.

 

Construction at Bourbonnais Public Library

Some construction work is getting underway today at the Bourbonnais Public Library. The Library says the concrete work is intended to make the library more accessible and will take about two weeks to complete. The library will be open during the construction, but warn that parking will be limited and the drop box location is being moved during construction.

 

Weapons Arrest in Monee Township 

A traffic stop Friday led Will County Sheriff’s Deputies to seize a few guns and cash. According to a press release, deputies conducted a routine traffic stop around 7:30 Friday morning on Northbound I-57, just south of Wilmington-Peotone Road. The car was occupied by 42 year old Donshea L. Trotter of Milwaukee along with three juveniles. A search of the car turned up two hand guns, one of them reportedly stolen out of Milwaukee, along with around sixteen thousand dollars in cash. Trotter was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a firearm with an invalid FOID card, among other charges. The three juveniles were released to a family member.

 

Kitchen Fire in Bourbonnais Sunday

Bourbonnais Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire on Edgemere Sunday evening. Reports say damage was confined to the kitchen and the fire was thought to have been electrical in nature. No injuries were reported.

 

Herscher Residents Asked to Conserve Water

The Village of Herscher is asking residents to conserve their water. According to a Facebook post from the village, they are currently fixing a large water main break and ask that you please refrain from pool fills, grass watering, car washing, and other heavy water uses during this time. Herscher officials will let you know when you can return to normal water use. You can contact Herscher Village Hall if you have any questions. 

 

KAMEG Made 2 Drug Arrests Friday

The Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group, also known as KAMEG, made a few drug arrests on Friday. According to a press release, the first one happened around 3:15 Friday afternoon in the 300 block of Stadium Drive in Bourbonnais. 37 year old Francesca Flowers of Bourbonnais was taken into custody for allegedly being in possession of around 2.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine and less than one gram of suspected heroin and methamphetamine. She was charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver, among other charges. The second arrest took place just before six o’clock Friday night in the 200 block of North Locust Street in Manteno. 30 year old Jacob Arbuckle of Manteno was arrested during a routine traffic stop in conjunction with an ongoing narcotics investigation which alleges he previously delivered suspected crack cocaine. 

 

Kankakee Shooting Arrest Made Friday

Kankakee City Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that injured 2 people last Sunday. According to a press release from city police, video footage from the shooting that took place near a grocery store in the 1700 block of East Maple street on Sunday afternoon confirms 22 year old Hernan Carmona of Kankakee was the one who allegedly started the shooting. Carmona was discharged from the hospital today and arrested by Kankakee City Police for aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm, attempted armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. The investigation remains ongoing with additional charges and arrests possible.
