Two Beecher residents hurt in truck explosion
Two people were injured when the 2016 Ford Pickup they were in exploded in rural Beecher Sunday night. Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police reports say it was just after 7:30 last night when the pair got into the truck. Reports say they smelled an egg smell inside the cab. After driving for couple of minutes the driver reportedly lit up a cigarette, unaware a propane tank in the back seat of the truck was leaking. That’s when the truck blew up. Reports say the explosion caused the top to blow off the truck, caused the windshield to blow out and the truck doors to blow open. Those inside were taken to the hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

 

State Police investigate alleged road rage incident
Illinois State Police are investigating an alleged road rage incident in Kankakee County over the weekend. State Police say it was about 9:15 Saturday night when they got a call about a man in a blue pickup truck displaying a gun to another driver while headed westbound on Route 17. The caller told police they lost site of the offending truck. State Police say the incident is under investigation.

 

Rensselaer woman hurt when hit by semi
Jasper County Sheriff’s Police report a 32-year-old Rensselaer woman was hurt Friday when she was hit by a semi while walking along US 231 in rural Jasper County. In a press release, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Jason Wallace says Patricia P Putts of Rensselaer was walking along US 231 just south of County Road 1050 South, when the northbound semi driven by 48-year-old Maurice A. Coleman of Fortney Texas carrying an oversized load was  unable to move over because of on-coming traffic and hit Putts. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The incident is still under investigation.

IDOT looks for “snowbirds”
 It may be August, but the folks at the Illinois Department of Transportation are already thinking about winter. IDOT is looking for what they call “snow birds”, the seasonal employees that will work for IDOT either by the month or by the hour to help out with snow and ice removal this winter. IDOT spokesperson Maria Castaneda

Salary ranges can be found on the website as well. IDOT reminds you to keep an eye out for snow plows when we head into winter.

State Trooper arrested on child porn charges
An Illinois State Police trooper faces federal child pornography charges.  Court records say investigators learned that Colin Gruenke of Deerfield uploaded images of child pornography on the social media platform Kik.  Federal agents arrested him last week after confronting him at the Illinois State Police headquarters in Des Plaines.  He was placed on administrative leave without pay.  Gruenke was also a referee for a junior hockey league.

 

Search continues for Gibson City man
Reports say the search continues for a 70-year-old Gibson City man after he allegedly shot two police officers more than a week ago. It all started in the early morning hours of August 9th when officers were called to the 100 block of Ash Street in Gibson City for a report of a naked man walking in the street. Police say that man was David Jordan and Jordan reportedly shot at officers as they tried to make contact with him at his home. The house then burst into flames. Reports say searchers have sifted through the remains of the house and no human remains were found. Officials continue to look for Jordan who’s thought to be armed and dangerous.
