An elderly Manhattan resident was almost scammed out of around ten thousand dollars early Friday afternoon. According to Manhattan Police,  a check fraud company called him and told him he needed to make a reimbursement. The company used personal information to convince the man that this was a legitimate payment and because of that call the man withdrew 9,800 dollars from his bank account. Fortunately the resident trusted his instincts, called police, who were able to prevent the man from losing his money to the scheme. Manhattan police would like to remind you to keep a close eye on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors to avoid scams like this.
