Some type of industrial soap is believed to have been the cause behind the closure of Kennedy Drive in Kankakee near Court Street Friday. According to Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis, the industrial soap came up from the sewer as white foam near the Stone Street Lift station and made its way onto the northbound lanes of Kennedy drive near the river late Friday morning. Mayor Curtis said it’s possible the soap foam was dumped into the sewer by some type of industrial plant just south of the city. Northbound lanes of Kennedy Drive were shut down for three to four hours so that Kankakee Fire Department and Environmental Services Utility could clean up the substance. Mayor Curtis said the soap foam is non-toxic and there was no threat to the public. City officials are investigating the incident.
