Shots were fired on Kankakee’s east side early Wednesday morning. Kankakee City Police say they were called to five-hundred South Wildwood Avenue for shots fired around 6:30 Wednesday morning. Officers canvased the area for damage to property and shell casings but couldn’t find anything. Verkada camera footage shows a minivan leaving the area at the time the shots were fired.
About two hours later, officers were called to the 13-Hundred block of West Station Street for a weapons call. The caller told police that his nephew had stolen his 9mm handgun and that he was still at his house. When police arrived, the caller stated his firearm was in the minivan parked in the alley on the west side of the house. Officers were given permission to search the minivan and found a .32 revolver, 2 spent 9mm shell casings, and 4 unspent 9mm shell casings. A 9mm handgun was not found however the minivan was identified as the suspect vehicle from the shots fired call from two hours earlier. Everyone at the scene was taken to the police station to speak with detectives and the minivan towed.
