The US Department of Justice has announced a 40-year-old Onarga man will be going to prison for five years after he pled guilty to possession of a bomb. In a press release, the feds say James R. Nelson was arrested last April when, during a traffic stop by Iroquois County Deputies, Nelson grabbed a gray cylinder from the back seat of his car, told deputies it was a bomb and took off running through neighborhoods in Onarga. The chase reportedly ended at Nelsons’ mother’s home where he barricaded himself for about eight hours before police forced their way in and arrested him. The device turned out to be a functional bomb and Nelson was indicted by a federal grand jury in July. He pled guilty in October. Nelson could have gotten up to 10 years in prison for the offense.
