Things are slightly better this week when it comes to local drought concerns.The latest numbers released Thursday by the US Drought monitor have things pretty much unchanged this week across Kankakee, Ford and Livingston Counties. The report says things are slightly better in Iroquois County, but still list nearly the bottom third of the County in extreme drought, with the middle part of the county in severe drought and the northern third in moderate drought. Things are much better in Will County where only the south-western 10 percent of the county is listed as being abnormally dry and the rest of the county listed as having no drought concerns at all.
Across the state line, things are pretty much the same this week in Newton and Jasper Counties, but the lates map lists the lower nearly 40 percent of Benton County as being in extreme drought with the rest of the county with severe drought conditions. The latest numbers just released by the US Drought Monitor include data gathered through Tuesday of this week.
