Recent rains have lessened drought concerns across the area. In fact, the latest map released Thursday by the US Drought monitor say all, but the south-western tip of Kankakee County has no drought concerns whatsoever, with only about eight percent of the county listed as “abnormally dry”. The map lists 59 percent of Iroquois County as “abnormally dry” with the other 41 percent without any drought concerns at all. Ford County is listed as 47 percent in moderate drought and the other 53 percent abnormally dry. Pretty much all of Grundy and Will Counties have no drought concerns whatsoever.
Across the state line, Newton County is listed as 35 percent abnormally dry and the rest without any drought concerns. Benton County is 70 percent abnormally dry and Jasper County 68 percent abnormally dry. The rest of both of those counties don’t have any drought concerns at all.
