During Tuesday morning’s Kankakee County Board meeting, the Board took up amendments to county ordinances when it comes to the siting of wind and solar farms in Kankakee County as well as the siting of potential battery and energy storage facilities. The changes were in reaction to a law passed in Springfield that takes most of the siting for those facilities out of local control. State’s Attorney Jim Rowe was asked if the changes needed to be made to keep the county in compliance with State Law
Several people spoke out during the public comment portion of today’s meeting in opposition to the changes. Rowe pointed out the only way to keep things like this from happening is to vote to change control in Springfield. The State gave local governments until June first to make the needed changes to local siting ordinances.
