Watseka man arrested on murder charges

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police report the arrest of a Watseka man on first degree murder charges in connection with the death of the man’s one-month-old son. In a press release, Iroquois County Deputies say Watseka Fire and EMS were called to a home in the 16-hundred block of Blue Bell Bend Road in rural Watseka last Friday for a report of a three-week old infant that wasn’t breathing. That infant, identified as Jace Ruiz was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago where he died on Monday. 22-year-old Jason L. Ruiz of Watseka was arrested in Chicago Thursday morning with the help of the US Marshal’s Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force. Ruiz is charged with first degree murder and aggravated battery in connection to the death. Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police say they continue to investigate the case.
