Governor defends Safe-T Act

Apr 30, 2026 | 10:28 AM
Governor Pritzker is standing behind the fundamentals of the SAFE-T Act.  Responding yesterday to demands of changes by Republican legislative leaders following the shooting of two Chicago police officers this past weekend, Pritzker praised the law for giving judges the ability to decide whether an offender should remain in jail or not.  In the case of Alphanso Talley, the man charged with killing one CPD officer and wounding another, the governor placed the blame on an elected judge making a bad decision.  At the time of the shooting, Talley was on electronic monitoring while awaiting trial in another felony case.
