Kankakee City Police Report Assault

Kankakee City Police were called to a business in the 1000 Block of East Birch Street early Sunday morning for a weapons call. When police arrived around 3:30 Sunday morning, an employee told officers that a man had allegedly threatened to shoot her and was outside the building in a gray four-door car. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the car sped off and officers ended the pursuit. Officers then went back to the business to speak with the employee who identified the man as 29-year-old Denzell L. Leggett. About an hour later, Leggett returned to the business and turned himself in to police. Leggett has been charged with assault, driving on a suspended license, among other charges.
