Kankakee City Police Report Battery to an EMT

Kankakee City Police report a Bourbonnais man allegedly battered a paramedic early this morning. According to reports, officers were called to a local hospital just after twelve this morning to speak to a Bourbonnais EMT who alleged 34-year-old Derek A. Wehrmann choked and pulled her hair inside the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Once they arrived at the hospital, city police, hospital security, and nurses on staff restrained Wehrmann. Bourbonnais EMS initially picked up Wehrmann for altered mental status; he was cooperative until they were about a minute away from the hospital. Wehrmann’s wife stated they had smoked a blunt together before the ambulance was called. Wehrmann has been charged with aggravated battery to an EMT among other charges.
