The average cost for a gallon of gas in Illinois, still more than five dollars as we head into the first major travel season of the summer. Triple-A says a gallon of gas is running five-dollars-five cents on average across the Land of Lincoln. That’s a dollar-67 more expensive than at this time last year. Triple-A says gas is down a penny in the Kankakee area, running 4.91 on average. Gas in Iroquois County is running 4.93 on average, it’s 4.94 on average in Ford County, 4.98 in Grundy County and five-dollars-15 cents a gallon on average in Will County. The highest average in the state is Cook County where a gallon of gas will set you back five-dollars-30 cents on average.
Across the state line, that gallon of gas is running four-dollars-13 cents on average in Newton County. It’s 4.37 on average in Benton County and four-dollars-20 cents a gallon on average in Jasper County. Triple-A says the cost for a gallon of gas is running four-dollars-12 cents on average across the Hoosier State. Nationwide average is four-dollars-51 cents a gallon .
