A Beecher woman allegedly brought a loaded handgun into the Kankakee County Courthouse this morning. According to a press release, sheriff’s deputies assigned to courthouse security allegedly found a loaded handgun in a woman’s purse as she was going through the routine security check to enter the courthouse around nine this morning. Deputies immediately secured the firearm that had a full magazine and a round in the chamber, along with two additional loaded magazines. The woman, identified as 40-year-old Rachel E. Kane-Coffman of Beecher, who is a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License holder, was taken into custody without incident. She’s been charged with carrying a concealed firearm into a court building and carrying and possessing a firearm in public. Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey says, “While we do not know the individual’s intentions and are not suggesting there was any plan to harm anyone, this incident reinforces the importance of the screening measures we have in place.”
